I work in two-dimensions—primarily in paint juxtaposed with printmaking, collage and drawing. My challenge is to  embrace and recreate an observed object in line and color on the flat surface. That reflection may appear as photographic realism or may be interpreted as something more evocative and abstracted. But it is the tactile, fluid quality of the paint that encourages me. For the past few years I have discovered that I want to incorporate my enthusiasm for cycling into my art. My works are inspired by the landscapes that I observe while on the bicycle, the patterns of roads and maps as well as the actual mechanics of the bicycle. And, to quote John Marin, “I am representing paint first of all, and not the motif primarily.”
